Best thing i can say is that the sound and special effects are very good. The movie didn't let me connect with any of the characters, or care about what happened. It's a shame as it comes from a still very engaging original. Disappointing.

the movie narrative is really interesting and at times this version touches on some of the deeper themes (the 2nd coming of Christ, future is our own destiny etc). However, for any special effects lovers there really arn't that many. For fans of sci-fi loaded with deep representational themes it does not explore them well enough. The orginal on the disc is a welcome bonus and whilst the special effects have dated I actually think it is still a decent sci-fi flick. If you can't stomach anything pre cgi then go for war of the worlds (which i did not rate that highly anyway) for a blockbuster remake or day the earth stood still for a reasonable end of the world movie.

I rented this the other night as I do like my Sci Fi Disaster movies. Please do not read all the treads that give this 1 star and say how rubbish it is. This movie is not rubbish. The film itself is a little wooden in parts, Goot is great although does not have a big part. You have to have a little imagination and if you do you, like me will find it interesting and have you on the edge of your seat wanting to see what happens next. The Blu ray Transfer is 7/10,, good but not quite A1. Sound is DTS HD, again very good sound. I would say if you like Sci fi and you have a little imagination then watch this, it's not a great film but it is good.
